Immunity Reborn is a fast paced survival rogue-lite action RPG with emphasis on defence. The game’s identity is for players to roleplay a character that acts like an immovable bulwark against hordes of enemies.

The goals of this project were:
  • To develop a condensed and fast paced gameplay experience that takes under 15 minutes per playthrough.
  • To reward defensive gameplay and punish reckless offensives over traditional dodge and high movement mechanics common in rogue-like games.

  • Fully realised game with heavy asset usage
  • 6 game levels with fully fleshed out areas, background music and careful level design; the game introduces enemies and mechanics in a friendly way while ramping up difficulty over time culminating in a “main” level that fulfils the game’s vision by combining all enemy types and mini bosses in one big map to fully test the player’s proficiency with game mechanics
  • Fully working player character with camera and movement controls, 3 shield types corresponding to 3 attack types, shield and memory attack gauge management, perfect parry counterattacks and health/healing
  • 3 basic enemies, 3 mini-bosses and 1 final boss, complete with state machines, animations, health bars, SFX/VFX, and combat mechanics. Each boss had at least one interesting mechanic to deal with, with the final boss having multiple mechanics.
  • Advanced enemy behaviour including melee enemy director and ranged enemy targeting with aiming indicator
  • 3 difficulty settings and 2 game modes (godmode and softcore), well tested with several dozen hours of personal play time invested into addressing balance issues and critical bugs
  • Quality of life content including tutorial screens, fully working main menu, in-game pause/victory/death menus with key information including current game mode, time spent in current playthrough and special victory text depending on game mode completed
